RFOC welcome pack

Post by jaz66 »

Hi and welcome. ( edited sept 2017 )

Just for those new to the Forum, we thought a welcome pack MIGHT be useful
to get straight into the full RFOC experience.... :ymhug:

Want to POST UP PIC's, :-bd ..but having problems.... ~x(

Well we've all been there..

So here are two methods that might help

G-drive
G-Drive video walkthrough

Postimage
The Help guide is here--->POSTIMAGE Guide

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

so for those totally new to posting pics on line, here's a little help,
that hopefully shows how quick and easy it CAN be
to post PICS to the forum, once you get the first one or two under your belt.

PICTURES ALREADY ONLINE

Here's a little exercise to demonstrate HOW TO PASTE PICS....
( i have used "google images" for this excercise )

My test pic came from a google search of " Suzuki motorcycles racing ."

RIGHT Click here --> Image to open up a REPLY TO this post in a separate Window.
Only have the 2 windows open, This Post and Your Reply Post.....close all others.

NOW RIGHT CLICK the pic below, and select " Copy IMAGE address "

Image

GO TO Your Reply Post and select "[ img ] [/ img ]" tags from above post window.
Now go you your keyboard and hit Contol button [Ctrl] PLUS V together......

( You could also RIGHT CLICK in between Image and paste THE link you just copied from above into Your Reply Post, same results. )

And once pasted into YOUR REPLY post ..it should look like this..
[img*]http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xDGeVvRnxA0/T ... X-R750.jpg[/img]
(Ignore *..simply helps show link, rather then make it a Hyperlink )

Now HIT Preview... :ymparty:

Once comfortable, now go to Your Reply Post edit window
( The page you write to BEFORE posting.)
Place Cursor below [img*]http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xDGeVvRnxA0/T ... X-R750.jpg[/img]
and write "Thank you Jaz, cheque is in the post".... ;) and hit SUBMIT.
(ok don't write that 8-} , but DO write something and post..it will help you see how pics FIT into posts so easily :thumright: )

And THAT is how you post pics into YOUR posts from anywhere on the web.
NB...please be aware that some pictures/sites WILL be copyrighted, so please respect that.

IF you want to post Your PERSONAL pics of your BIKE. etc
then you WILL need POSTIMAGE or similar

Before you start let me offer an alternative view of how it all works.... :-?

i'd liken websites to peoples houses or clubs.
If you invite people to your house or club and your pics are locked in a draw, (aka your pc) no one can see them.. :(
you need to post them on the walls so people can enjoy them... :ymdaydream:

POSTIMAGE and similar, are those walls for the sake of online pics.
and once your pics are 'up' you can place them anywhere on the web,
and of course once posted anyone else can copy and place them anywhere they choose, as well..

The Help guide is here--->POSTIMAGE Guide

(* see below for how to add pics using Google Drive instead of photobucket / image shack. etc )

And IF you want to post up your OWN Youtube links....we got a app for that too ;)
Post in a Youtube Video

g-drive youtube posting guide
nb:poor attempt, so change video setting from hd 720 to 360 quality for best vewing.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

updated sept 2017

If you have already got google drive, why not try it and see how easy it can be. 8-)
open drive, click on NEW and select "File upload "..and share that pic ... :thumright:

POSTING PICTURES UP YOU HAVE SAVED TO G-DRIVE

G-Drive video walkthrough

For those who use or would like to use Googles G-drive

here a little TEST guide

Google Drive TEST.

save THIS pic to your desktop
Image

RIGHT Click here --> Image to open up a REPLY TO this post in a separate Window.
Only have the 2 windows open, This Post and Your Reply Post.....close all others.

Go to YOUR Google drive account and hit 'NEW' top left.
select FILE UPLOAD
and choose the PIC above to Upload.
Once done, go to GOOGLE DRIVE and RIGHT click THAT picture and select SHAREABLE LINK (left click it)
this now puts THAT pic on your clipboard ready to paste.

Now GO TO Your Reply Post and select "[ img ] [/ img ]" tags from above post window.
Now go you your keyboard and hit Contol button [Ctrl] PLUS V together......

( You could also RIGHT CLICK in between Image and paste THE link you just copied from above into Your Reply Post, same results. )

This places the GOOGLE DRIVE Shareable link inside your [#img] [#/img] tags

You now still need to do TWO simple things...
DELETE the
https://drive.google.com/open?id=
that is in your picture Link
REPLACE it with
http://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=

Image

I regularly use this and the hardest part is remembering  what replaces the DELETED part of the Link
(i saved my to my signature below my posts... :thumright: )

From all on the Forum..Welcome, Enjoy and Hopefully we'll soon be seeing you adding your choice of pics and videos
for the rest of us to enjoy....

Just a pointer for HOW TO POST PICS from ANY site
(with a few exceptions..Flickr, some ebay etc)

If you find a picture you would like to try and add to a post you are writing

Find that picture and right click it.
drop down list should have "copy image location" :thumright:
left click "copy image location" (Not "copy link location".. [-x )

go find your RFOC post,
move cursor to top of post and left click on [ img ]
this will place an [ img ] [/ img ] tag where ever your cursor last was inside post.
and HIT Control + V together
OR place your cursor inside [ img ] [/ img ] and right click, select paste.

Pic should now be showing in your post. :-bd
to check preview post and admire.

and secondly....

the pics you post look best from a resolution of around 400 to 1200
(you find this info on the PIC page you have chosen)

Ollie has kindly added a link to reduce IMAGE sizes.

[ fimg= ] tags offer a good choice to allow you to post larger pictures into a smaller format.

for example the largest pic at bottom of this post is at 2048.

with the [ fimg= ][[ /fimg ] tags we can make that display at ANY size we choose,
by ADDING our chosen SIZE after the first tag [fimg= HERE ]

you must add width,height...they must be seperated by one comma, with NO space like so...
(ignore #..only there to stop link becoming a hyper link )

[#fimg=600,400]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... Sheene.jpg[/fimg]
[#fimg=300,200]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... Sheene.jpg[/fimg]

and when formatted as above, look like this....

Now bigger IS nicer... but it will not look so good to others using the forum as they read through the post..
and depending on how they view forum.... PC, Tablet or Mobile, it can be annoying... :-w

(if you feel the need for bigger resolution pics, it's always better to just post link so members can choose to view or not :ymhug:
Select URL from above your post and hit Control + V to add link)

as an example of sizes and how they look in posts...

Aha - so you don't need to save the image to your postimage account in order to put the pic in your thread?

You do if it's only on your hard drive, you can only link to elsewhere on the interweb thingy so that's why you have to upload your own pics to Postimage (other file sharing sites are available).

Apologies to jizz for stepping in ;)

Apologies to jizz for stepping in ;)
( jizz..cheeky fcuker.. 8-} )

and apology ?...none required, me ol mucker... :ymhug:

reading it back, it does seem i wasn't entirely clear i meant pictures from Someone elses online storage..aka the web... ;)

so any website you find on-line..you can usually post the pics from there, onto here for discussion, etc.
so it could be another forum, or a blog or a any googled site you found..the world is your oyster.. \:D/

You can't do pics from the main ebay ad page usually, you know the ones it magnifies, BUT you can click on those pics
(bigger shot) and post THAT if you wanted to.. :D

However i haven't found how to do that with flickr yet...

and of course any pics on your computer need to be uploaded to the web somewhere
(postimage, image shack, etc) to be visible, for you to post them on line... :thumright:

if it helps.... :-?

i'd liken websites to peoples houses or clubs.
